Agyemang & Dayon Notch Top-Five Finishes on Day One of NJAC Championships

Ewing, NJ. - The Montclair State University men's outdoor track and field sophomore's SHELDON AGYEMANG and GABRIEL DAYON each earned top-five placements on the first day of the NJAC Championships down at the College of New Jersey.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Agyemang had the highest placement of the Red Hawks. He notched a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.79m (22' 3.5"). HIVEN BIFFOT also competed in the same event and placed seventh with a mark of 6.65 (21' 10"). ELIAS HANLEY and KEYSHAWN DIXON rounded out the top 10 with Hanley earning a ninth-place mark of 6.36m (20' 10.5") and Dixon placing 10th with the same mark.
  • GABRIEL DAYON earned his fifth-place finish in the javelin. He threw a distance of 50.68m (166' 3"). Also, seeing top-10 placements in the same event were MOHAMMED ABDALLAH and JACK VERBEL. Abdallah threw 49.69m (163') for seventh place with Verbel collecting ninth with a mark of 47.09m (154' 9").
  • On the track, COURTNEY ROGERS JR., placed 12th among the field when he clocked a 50.36.
  • JAYSON ELLIS was the top performer for the Red Hawks in the 100-meter dash. He collected a time of 11.15 to place 15th.
  • JOSEPH BIO earned a 14th-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. He clocked a time of 1:01.43.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Agyemang posted a career-best mark in the long jump.
  • Biffot and Dixon each picked up season-best marks on the day
  • Bio clocked a season-best mark in the 400 hurdles 
  • Ellis clocked a career-best time in the 100.
  • Montclair currently sits in fifth place with 13 total points at the event.

FROM THE RACE
  • "Mixed bag as far as performance today. Had a few great highlights with Sheldon in the long jump and Gabe in the javelin. We will need to make up for today with out triple jump squad and relay teams. Will also need some others to step up. Excited to see us compete on day two." Head Coach Ian Carter.
 
UP NEXT
  • Montclair State University will wrap up the NJAC Championship on Sunday, May 4. The first event is slated for 11:00am.
