Pitman, NJ – The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced Tuesday afternoon that three Montclair State University student-athletes earned NJAC Player of the Week honors following the opening weekend of the fall season.
Freshman LUCY CORNELIUS was named NJAC Volleyball Rookie of the Week, sophomore ISABELL KRONOW was recognized as Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, and senior SYDNEY WHITE was selected as Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Cornelius made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, helping the Red Hawks start the season 4-0. She totaled 125 assists (8.93 per set), 43 digs, 10 kills, two service aces, and two blocks across four matches. Her standout efforts came on Saturday, posting 25 assists, 14 digs, and four kills in a 3-1 win over Washington (Md.) before dishing out a weekend-high 38 assists in a 3-0 sweep of Hartwick.
Kronow also shone in her first weekend in a Red Hawk uniform, directly contributing to all three of Montclair's goals. In a 2-0 victory over Coast Guard, she assisted on the game-winner and added a goal of her own. She followed that up on Sunday by delivering a clutch 81st-minute assist to secure a 1-1 draw against Johnson & Wales.
White anchored Montclair State defensively in a challenging weekend against nationally ranked opponents. On Friday, she recorded five saves in a 1-0 shutout victory over No. 12 Cortland. Two days later, she tallied eight saves while yielding just one goal on a penalty stroke against No. 19 MIT. White finished the weekend with 13 saves and an impressive .929 save percentage.
The honors marked the first career NJAC weekly awards for all three Red Hawks, with Cornelius and Kronow earning recognition in their Montclair State University debut weekend.
