Hoboken, NJ - The Montclair State University men's lacrosse fell to 1-2 in Knickerbocker Conference play with an 8-2 loss to defending champion Stevens Tech on Saturday afternoon.
Montclair trailed 2-0 at the of the first period but tied the game in the second on goals by
KEVIN GONDRES (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and sophomore
CHRIS MEIXNER (Hamburg, NJ/Vernon). The Red Hawk defense held Stevens scoreless in the second quarter and was a perfect 8-for-8 on clearing attempts.
But Stevens broke the tie in the third quarter with goals in the first two minutes of the period by Mike Baumbach (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) and Eliot Dahood (Memphis, TN/Peddle). Meanwhile, the Stevens defense kept Montclair off the scoreboard in the second half.
MATT VON KLEMPERER (Summit, NJ/Summit) had two assists for the Red Hawks (4-2, 1-2 KLC), while junior goalkeeper
VINNY DEGENNARO (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) stopped 15 shots.
Stevens dominated the time f possession in the game with a 10-3 margin in faceoffs won and a 50-27 edge in ground balls.
