Greenwood, IN – As announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization, as a part of their "at-large" sports selections, the Montclair State University men's lacrosse team saw five of its student-athletes get named to the Academic All-District team on Tuesday afternoon.
The Academic All-District® At-Large Team, selected annually by CSC, honors the nation's top student-athletes who excel academically and athletically. The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA. The at-large selections honor the following sports; Men's Fencing, Men's Golf, Men's Gymnastics, Men's Ice Hockey, Men's Lacrosse, Men's Rifle, Men's Skiing, Men's Volleyball, Men's Water Polo, Men's Wrestling, Women's Beach Volleyball, Women's Bowling, Women's Crew/Rowing, Women's Fencing, Women's Field Hockey, Women's Golf, Women's Gymnastics, Women's Ice Hockey, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Rifle, Women's Skiing, and Women's Water Polo
In order to be eligible for the Academic All-District Team, a student must be a sophomore or higher in academic and athletic standing, maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA, and have either played in 90% of athletic contests or started 66% of athletic contests in the current season.
Representing Montclair State men's lacrosse on the 2025 CSC Academic All-District Team are
LOUIS AZARA, CODY COOPER, NICHOLI HALSE, ETHAN MOUNIER, and
JULIAN VARONA.
Azara, a senior midfielder and business analytics major with a 3.91 GPA, appeared in 15 of 16 games in 2025. He totaled seven points on six goals and one assist, while also collecting five ground balls and causing one turnover. His best performance came on April 19 at home against #2 Salisbury, where he scored twice.
Cooper, a justice studies major with a 3.56 GPA, played in all 16 games, making one start. A 2025 Coastal Lacrosse Conference (CLC) Second Team selection, he tallied 22 goals and 15 assists for 37 total points. He also added 18 ground balls and a caused turnover. Cooper's standout game came on February 16 at Western Connecticut, where he posted a career-high five goals and one assist.
Halse, the team's starting goalkeeper, earned his spot with a 3.71 GPA. Halse started all 16 games and recorded 153 saves, averaging 9.94 saves per game — a mark that ranks in the program's top 10 for a single season. His highlight came on April 5 against Mary Washington, where he made a season-high 19 saves.
Mounier, a business major concentrating in finance, carried a 3.54 GPA while starting 15 of 16 games. He ranked in the top five on the team in goals (18), assists (12), and points (30), and also contributed 20 ground balls and three caused turnovers. His top performance came in the season opener against Penn College on February 22, where he scored four goals in a 15-9 win.
Varona, a cybersecurity major with a 3.6 GPA, started 13 of the 15 games he played. He registered 18 goals and eight assists for 26 points, while also collecting 13 ground balls and causing five turnovers. His best outing came in the season opener against Penn College, where he netted a hat trick to help secure the victory.
