Union, NJ - MATT VON KLEMPERER (Summit, NJ/Summit) scored three goals and added five assists as Montclair State won its third straight with a 17-8 victory over Kean University in Knickerbocker Conference Men's Lacrosse action on Wednesday evening.
KEVIN GONDRES (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn), the KLC Rookie of the Week, and
SEAN PEKARSKY (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) each scored four times for the Red Hawks (7-2, 4-2 KLC), who led 7-0 after the first period.
Von Klemperer gave Montclair a 1-0 lead 2:39 into the game as he converted a pass from sophomore
CHRIS MEIXNER (Hamburg, NJ/Vernon).
DAVE STRUNK (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) scored just over five minutes later for a two-goal advantage and the Red Hawks pushed the lead to five with three tallies during a 40-second span. Gondres scored twice with
ANTHONY MOSCA (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) netting one score.
Kean would get within 8-2 at the 2:11 mark of the second period, but Montclair scored the final four goals. Gondres began the spur with a score at 7:01 and MSU recorded two more goals in the final 25 seconds on tallies by Pekarsky and Gondres.
VINNY DEGENNARO (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) made six saves for the Red Hawks, while
MARK FERLANTI (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and
MIKE VALENZANO (Woodcliffe Lake, NJ/St. Joseph's Regional) combined for five in the final 30 minutes.
MSU outshot the Cougars, 33-24 in the contest.
