SEAN PEKARSKY (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) each scored three goals as Montclair State defeated Kings Point, 9-7, in Knickerbocker Conference Men's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Sunday afternoon.
MATT VON KLEMPERER (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) had five assists for the Red Hawks (9-3, 5-2 KLC), who have won five of their last six. Jim Krantz (Downingtown, PA/Malvern Prep) had two goals and two assists for the Mariners (6-6, 5-2 KLC), who have dropped two straight.
Tied 4-4 with just under 12 minutes remaining, Montclair State took the lead for good as Gondres scored off an assist from Von Klemperer for a 5-4 Red Hawk advantage. Pekarsky then scored five minutes later for a two-goal lead. Phil Egge (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) scored with 6:58 to play in the period, cutting the lead to 7-6, but Gondres pushed the lead back to 7-5 with 4:01 to play.
Leading 7-6 in the fourth, Pekarsky scored with 9:44 left to give MSU an 8-6 lead however, Ross Cutler's (Vienna, VA/Gonzaga) goal with 8:25 to go pulled the Mariners within one. Pekarsky then put the game away with 4:22 left as he scooped up a ground ball at midfield and raced toward the goal before firing in a shot past Kings Point goalkeeper Teague Murphy (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach).
VINNY DEGENNARO (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) made 20 saves for Montclair State, which was outshot in the contest, 42-26. Teague had eight saves for the Mariners.
