Former Lacrosse All-American Pat Ferry to Play for Ireland in FIL World Championship

Standout Defender to Compete in Denver July 10-19

Montclair, NJ – Former Montclair State men's lacrosse All-American Patrick Ferry (Clifton, NJ / Clifton) will compete for Team Ireland in the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Men's World Championship, presented by Trusted Choice, which takes place July 10-19 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, CO.

A record 38 nations will participate in this year's world championship and will play 142 games over 10 days. The field is broken into nine divisions, with the top six teams competing in the Blue Division. The other eight divisions all have four teams and are not grouped by world ranking.

The Blue Division has six days of pool play (July 10-15) and the top four teams in the Blue Division advance to the quarterfinal round. The top two seeds receive a bye into the semifinals. The other eight divisions have three pool play games and will begin bracket play on July 14. The top team in each of the eight divisions after pool play will have the opportunity to advance to the quarterfinal round of the championship bracket. This is the first time the quadrennial FIL Men's World Championship has been held in the United States since 1998 when it was played in Baltimore.

ESPN will provide unprecedented coverage of the FIL World Championship, showing approximately 60 games across its networks and via ESPN3. The semifinals and championship game will be televised live on ESPNU

Team Ireland is grouped in the Yellow Division along with Uganda, France and Bermuda. Ferry's team opens up its pool play on Friday, July 11 at 2:30 pm local time (4:30 pm EDT) against Uganda with a 1:00 pm EDT contest against France the following day. The squad wraps up pool play on Sunday, July 13 with a 7:30 pm EDT game versus Bermuda.

Ferry played for the Red Hawks from 2007-2010 helping the Red Hawks to a 51-21 record, a pair of Skyline Conference championships and the first two NCAA Tournament berths in program history in 2009 and 2010. The Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year in 2007, Ferry was a four-time All-Skyline selection including three consecutive First-Team honors.

Ferry anchored the Montclair State defensive during his career unit and finished as the school's all-time leader in caused turnovers with 108. In 69 career games, Ferry also totaled 158 ground balls and also contributed on the offensive end with four goals and seven assists for 11 points. He capped off his outstanding Red Hawks career in 2010 when he was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse (USILA) All-America Team becoming just the second player in Montclair State history at the time to earn that honor. Ferry was also chosen to the USILA Division III Senior All-Star Game.
