Red Hawks Falter at DeSales, 8-1

Epifanio Drive in Lone Run for Red Hawks

Center Valley, PA – DeSales University third baseman Tommy Esparo belted two home runs, including a grand slam and finished with six RBI as the Bulldogs handed Montclair State an 8-1 loss at Butz Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Esparo went 2-for-3 while Preston Amato also collected two hits as the Bulldogs squared their record at 9-9 on the year. Junior second baseman JUSTIN EPIFANIO went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Red Hawks, who fell to 11-5 on the season.

The Bulldogs put together a two-out rally in the first scoring the game's first run on an RBI single by Michael White. Amato added to the lead in the third with a run-scoring double and Esparo's two-run homer in the fourth extended the DeSales lead to 4-0.

Montclair would get on the board in the sixth. CHRIS ROTH led off with a walk and moved to third on a base hit and fielder's choice before coming home on Epifanio's infield single cutting the lead to 4-1.
But the Bulldogs answered in its half of the inning loading the bases with one out bringing up Esparo, who blasted a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence for a grand slam and an 8-1 advantage.

Jack Moore got the victory for DeSales as he picked up his first win of the season (1-0). Moore allowed one run and five hits, striking out two and walking one. Ryan Passaro tossed two scoreless innings before John Poccia and Konner Schneider each tossed an inning to close out the game.

Senior righthander MICHAEL MANFRA (3-2) took the loss to Montclair State. HAYDEN REYES had two hits for MSU.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, March 28 with their first home game of the season at Yogi Berra Stadium. Montclair hosts Manhattanville College with first scheduled for 3:30 pm.
