Montclair Earns Split in NJAC Opener with 16th-Ranked Rowan

Gehring 3 RBI in Nightcap as MSU Wins 8-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Montclair, NJ – Junior VICTORIA GEHRING had two hits and drove in three runs as Montclair State earned a split of NJAC doubleheader with 16th-ranked Rowan University on Saturday at the MSU Softball Stadium.

The Red Hawks (11-5, 1-1 NJAC) bounced back from 5-0 loss in the opener with 12 hits in an 8-2 victory. NICOLE MAJEWSKI allowed two runs and scattered eight hits in a complete-game win upping her record to 4-1. The righthander retired nine of the final 10 batters she faced.

In the opener, MSU was held to three hits by Rowan righthander Jesse DeDomenico, who struck out five in posting the shutout win. She struck out five. The Profs (15-4-1, 1-1 NJAC) scored twice in the fourth on an RBI double by Sonia Sharma and a bases-loaded walk to Rebecca Lombardo.

Sharma singled home another run in the fifth and Carly Anderson belted a solo home run in the sixth for a 4-0 lead. Pinch-runner Madison Petroski scored on an error for the final run.

Sophomore righthander KIARA RUIZ (5-2) took the loss for MSU.

Rowan would grab a 2-0 lead in the nightcap mounting a two-out rally in the second inning. Anderson singled back through the middle for the first run and DeDomenico's RBI single gave the Profs the two-run advantage.

The Montclair State bats came alive in the third with four runs. AMBER POWERS singled in sister Kaylee with the first run and Gehring tied the score with a single into right-center. Samantha DiClementi smacked a base hit to left giving MSU a 3-2 lead before AMBER POWERS came home on an error for the final run.

Gehring dropped in a two-run double in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-2 and KAYLEE POWERS collected an RBI single in the fifth for a five-run advantage. Catcher ALANA LUNA doubled in Gehring in the sixth for the final Montclair State run.

KAYLEE POWERS, AMBER POWERS, Gehring and Luna each had two hits for the Red Hawks.

Montclair is back in action on Tuesday, April 3 hosting 22nd-ranked Kean University at the MSU Softball Stadium. First pitch of the NJAC doubleheader is set for 3:00 pm.
