Montclair, NJ – Junior righthander Jon Brignoni struck out 10 batters over eight innings as Ramapo College stretched its winning streak to 11 games with a 9-1 victory over Montclair State at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Catcher Nick Camilleri went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as the Roadrunners (27-11, 11-5) swept the "home-and-home" series with the Red Hawks. Friday's game was moved from Jeff Maund Field in Mahwah to Yogi Berra Stadium for a second straight day. Ramapo won Thursday's contest 4-3.
Ramapo moved a half-game in front of Rowan and Rutgers-Camden for second place in the NJAC standings as both of those teams were idle after postponements.
Meanwhile, MSU (19-17) fell to 7-9 in league play, a half game out of the final playoff spot. The Red Hawks would need a sweep of its final contests on Saturday, April 28
th against Rutgers-Newark in addition to some help to gain a spot in the upcoming league tournament.
Brigoni improved to 4-1 as he allowed three hits and an unearned run while walking three. Riley Reiss pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the game. Sophomore righthander
BRIAN REISS (3-3) took the loss giving up six runs (three earned) and eight hits in six innings. Reiss fanned four and walked two.
Ramapo, serving as the home team for the game, got all the runs it would need in the second inning as Camilleri singled to right field scoring Ryan MacNaughton and Vincenzo Sita for a 2-0 lead. Bobby Shannon scored on an error in the fourth and Connor Walsh lofted a sac fly in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.
Errors in the sixth and seventh by Montclair allowed Ramapo to build a 7-0 lead with MacNaughton plating another run with a single as the Raodrunners led by eight runs.
Montclair State got on the board in the eighth when
JUSTIN EPIFANIO scored on an error with two outs. Ramapo got that back in the bottom of the eighth on an fielder's choice RBI in Joe Maugeri.
