BRIAN REISS tossed a three-hit shutout helping Montclair State to a split of NJAC doubleheader with No. 1/3 Rowan University on Sunday afternoon.
The pulled out a 1-0 victory in the opener despite being no-hit by the Profs (16-5, 2-4 NJAC). Rowan took the second game 6-2. The split put MSU at 15-8 on the season, 4-2 in conference play.
Reiss outdueled Danny Serreino in the first game as he upped his record to 3-0 on the season. Reiss faced four batters over the minimum and surrendered three singles. He struck out four, walked two and got 14 ground ball outs. Meanwhile, Serreino (2-2) fanned 13 batters and walked three through the first eight innings before Jordan Friedman pitched a scoreless ninth.
The lone run in the game came in the second inning despite Serreino striking out three hitters. He got the first out on a strikeout and got another however the ball skipped away allowing
IAN LYNCH to reach first base. Lynch stole second and Serreino fanned another for the second out. A walk
JUSTIN BATES kept the inning going.
HAYDEN REYES then bounced a ball to third that was thrown away allowing Lynch to score with the game's lone run.
Reiss made that lead stand as he retired 23 of the final 25 hitters he faced. Only three Profs baserunners reached second base.
In the second game, Montclair took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
JOE NORTON singled to left with two outs. He stole second and went to third on a throwing error before scampering home on a wild pitch.
Rowan tied the game in the second and moved in front in the third with four runs. Harrold, Mendel and Provost each had RBI singles and Leach added a sacrifice fly for a 5-1 lead. Shane scored in the fourth making it a five-run advantage.

Montclair State goes right back to work on Monday, April 9 at home against Lehman College with first pitch set for 3:30 pm.
