Men's Soccer: Gameday Preview vs. Rowan (NJAC Semifinals)

Montclair, NJ – On Wednesday evening, the No. 1 seeded Montclair State men's soccer team hosts No. 4 Rowan University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Semifinals.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (16-2-1, 8-1-0 NJAC) suffered only their second blemish of the season last Wednesday, falling to Rutgers-Newark 3-2 in overtime. IAN CHESNEY and RYAN CATALANO tallied goals while ANDRES LEZME made a career-high eight saves in the setback.

SCOUTING THE PROFS
The Profs are 11-3-1 overall and posted a 5-3-1 mark within the New Jersey Athletic Conference. They hosted No. 5 Stockton University in the Quarterfinals on Saturday and defeated the Ospreys 1-0. Wilby Alfred collected his team-leading eighth goal of the year in the 39th minute, while James Weinberg made four saves to get his sixth clean sheet of the season.

NJAC HISTORY:
This will be the Red Hawks 19th appearance in the NJAC Tournament with Montclair posting a 23-8-2 mark during that time. MSU has won eight championships in the tournament era, including four straight from 2006-2009 in addition to three of the last four (2016, 2018, 2019).

 
LAST MEETING
Montclair tallied a 2-1 victory over Rowan on October 23. After a scoreless first half, JANBI KAGHADO scored twice, once in the 56th minute and once in the 64th, to help Montclair clinch the No. 1 seed. Matias Carrion scored in the 79th minute for Rowan, who was unable to find the equalizing tally.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Montclair is 33-35-6 all-time against Rowan but has notched victories in four of the last five matchups. Montclair picked up eight straight victories over Rowan from October 15, 2005 – September 16,2010, while Rowan won seven consecutive matches from October 19, 1990 – September 27, 1995.

UP NEXT
The winner of this semifinal will face the winner of the Kean/Rutgers-Newark Semifinal on Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed in the NJAC Championship Game.
