Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's soccer had two student-athletes claim major awards as the Red Hawks placed seven on All-NJAC teams.
JANBI KAGHADO was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Year, while
BROGAN QUIGLEY was awarded the David Logar Leadership Award. Joining Kaghado on the First Team was
MICHAEL CASPER,
ANTHONY PELAEZ, and
DANIEL RODRIGUEZ, while
JUSTIN GOLDBERG,
BRENT LLEWELLYN, and
SHANE KEENAN were chosen to the Second Team.
Kaghado led the Red Hawks with two goals and two assists while starting all six games up top. He opened his Red Hawk career by scoring the game-winning goal against Stockton in the season-opener before converting a penalty kick against Rutgers-Camden. In the NJAC Semifinal win over Rutgers-Camden, he assisted on the last two goals, helping the Red Hawks win 3-1. The sophomore becomes the third Red Hawk to win Offensive Player of the Year, joining Tyler Masterson (2008) and Lucas Terci (2014, 2016).
Like Kaghado, Casper started all six games this season and registered a goal and an assist. A one-time NJAC Rookie of the Week, he netted his first collegiate goal in the 5-0 win over New Jersey on March 13. In a 2-0 victory over Ramapo, Casper assisted on the second of the game, helping the Red Hawks close out the win over the Roadrunners.
A two-time Honorable Mention All-NJAC choice, Pelaez earns his First Team accolade. He scored the second goal in a 2-0 win over Ramapo and attempted five shots. Rodriguez was a part of the backline that surrendered just two goals all season. The junior earned a point in the 2-0 win over Ramapo before netting his first goal of the season in the semifinal win over Rutgers-Camden.
Goldberg and Llewellyn played vital roles in the offense, as Goldberg helped seal the Camden win in the regular season with an 86th-minute tally. He attempted 15 shots this season, the most on the squad. Llewellyn notched a goal and two assists, picking up his first assist in the season-opener against Stockton. He tallied the game-winning goal in the Red Hawks 2-0 win over Ramapo, earning NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time.
Keenan went 5-1 this season, posting four shutouts, and went the entire regular season without allowing a goal. The junior made 15 saves against just two goals allowed and held a .34 goals-against average. In the regular-season win over Camden, he made a season-high four saves and made three stops in the season's final three games. Quigley was named a team captain this season and played in all six games, making five starts. He played outside back on the defensive unit that helped Keenan surrender just two goals.
