Montclair, NJ – Junior outside hitter
CARLY WATERMAN of the Montclair State volleyball team was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team Thursday.
As a physical education major, Waterman, who holds a 3.84 GPA, was one of three student-athletes chosen from the New Jersey Athletic Conference. She joins Emily Sullivan and Charlotte Leon as the NJAC representatives on the eight-person District 2 team. District 2 covers schools based in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Washington D.C.
Named as a Second Team All-NJAC honoree, Waterman opened the year with nine kills at Stockton and registered 10 in the next match versus NJCU. She collected a season-high 15 with eight digs at Rutgers-Camden and totaled 10 kills along with seven digs in the 3-0 win over Kean in the conference tournament. Waterman was sixth in the league in kills per set (2.68) and eighth in points (2.86).
Last season, Waterman became the first student-athlete in program history to be named an All-American and has been named All-NJAC in each of her first three campaigns at MSU. The Verona, NJ native was named the Montclair State Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2021 and was named to the Dean's List in the fall. Additionally, she was chosen to the 2020 NJAC All-Academic Team.
Waterman becomes the first student-athlete in program history to gain CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, and is now eligible to be chosen as an Academic All-American, released on July 14.
