No. 8 Red Hawks Face Tough Test in NYU

Montclair, NJ – The No. 8 Montclair State men's soccer team hosts New York University Saturday afternoon.

PRESEASON RANKING
When the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll was released on August 4, the Red Hawks were chosen eighth in the country. They were one of two New Jersey Athletic Conference teams in the top-25, joining Rowan, who slotted in at No. 15.
 
LAST TIME OUT

The No. 8 Red Hawks picked up their second clean sheet of the season on Wednesday, blanking Hunter 7-0. GENE CARLO ALTAMIRANO notched a pair of goals while sophomore MICHAEL CASPER collected three assists. ANDRES LEZME earned the victory, while JULIAN GUZMAN and CHARLIE REVY also made their first career appearances in net.
 
AWARD SEASON
After tallying four goals and two assists last week, Lukovic was tabbed as the NJAC Offensive Player of the Week. The rookie recorded at least three points in all matchups last week.

SCOUTING NYU
The Violets come in the match with a 1-0-1 record and have yet to surrender a goal this season. This fall, they have faced a pair of NJAC opponents, battling Rutgers-Camden to a 0-0 draw and knocking off Stockton 4-0.
 
LAST MEETING
The last time these two sides squared off was in the Second Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, which was held at MSU Soccer Park. Level at one through 110 minutes, Montclair State outlasted NYU 5-4 in penalty kicks to move onto the Sectional Semifinal. Michael Knapp converted the game-winning penalty kick after Mike Saalfrank made a stop in the third round.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The Red Hawks are 10-4-3 all-time against their Hudson River rivals. NYU won the first three meetings before Montclair is 10-1-3, dating back to 1975.
