Cross Country: Meet Day Preview - NJAIAW Championships

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State cross country team heads to Stockton University for their first meet of the season Saturday morning.

MEET INFO
The NJAIAW Championship Meet will begin at 10:30 am around Stockton's campus in Galloway, NJ.

2020 RECAP
The Red Hawks placed third as a team at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on March 20. Then sophomore CHRISTIANA CAPRIO notched a 12th place time of 25:35.2, which gained her Second Team All-NJAC accolades.

GUESS WHO'S BACK
After sitting out last season, Caprio will be joined by senior KELLY WECKSTEIN to form a potent 1-2 duo for the Red Hawks. In 2019, Weckstein placed 14th overall with a time of 24:03.7 and was also named Second Team All-NJAC. The Lyndhurst, NJ native and Caprio are the only Red Hawks to gain All-NJAC accolades since the program returned during the 2015-16 year.

TOP RETURNERS
EMILY ALBRIGHT comes back after finishing second among Red Hawk finishers at the NJAC Championship last spring. The senior notched a time of 27:16.1. Also returning for the Red Hawks are NATASHA SENATUS, KIM HOANG, and JACQUELINE KINDER, who competed at the NJAC Championship Meet back in March.

FRESH FACES
Montclair State welcomes six newcomers to the program this fall in SOPHIA DE ANDRADE, NICOLE DOWDY, ANGIE GONZALEZ, ASHLEY MARTIN, KAYLA MCADAMS, and ROSALY SANTOS. Those six combined with the returning team members have been putting in a lot of miles this fall and are gearing up for a great season.

LAST TIME
At the 2019 NJAIAW Championships, the Red Hawks placed eighth out of 21 teams. Weckstein led the team with a 10th place time of 24:56.76, while Brooke Filippini and Giana DiLascio were 50th and 51st, respectively.

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks will return to action on October 2 when they compete at the NJIT Highlander Challenge in Newark, NJ, at 11 am.
