Preview | Men's Soccer vs. Elmira (NCAA First Round)

Montclair, NJ – The No. 5 Montclair State University men's soccer team hosts the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournament starting Saturday.

GAME INFO  
The Red Hawks will face Elmira College at 5 pm, with Christopher Newport University and Manhattanville College batting at 7:30 pm at MSU Soccer Park. Live stats and video links are available on montclairathletics.com, while video can be found on the Red Hawk Sports Network YouTube Channel.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students/senior citizens/children. All ticket sales are CASH ONLY.

NJAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
The Red Hawks (17-2-1, 9-0-0 NJAC) dispatched Rowan University 4-2 to claim the 15th New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship in program history. After trailing 1-0 at halftime, ENIR RADONCIC headed in the tying marker in the 51st minute before AMER LUKOVIC scored 76 seconds later. REED KARSEN made it 3-1 in the 61st minute before the Profs cut the lead in half. With time ticking away, Lukovic bagged his second goal of the game, cementing the 4-2 triumph.

SCOUTING ELMIRA
The Soaring Eagles, who went 7-6-5 in the Empire 8, recorded a penalty kick victory over St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 Championship Game to claim the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament. Martin Harguindey was named the Empire 8 Coach of the Year, with Lamine Balde earning of the year laurels. Six Soaring Eagles were named to the Empire 8 All-Conference Team. 

SCOUTING CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT
The Captains, who boasted the highest strength of schedule in the country, went 10-4-2 on the year and advanced to the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Semifinals. Christopher Newport is making the team's fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 14th all-time in program history. The Captains have advanced to the second round in five consecutive postseason showings and have won at least one game in the postseason in ten of the previous 13 NCAA appearances. 

SCOUTING MANHATTANVILLE
The Valiants won the Skyline Conference after knocking off second-seeded Farmingdale State 2-1 in the championship game. They went 9-3-6 overall, including a 7-0-4 mark in the Skyline. They are riding a nine-game unbeaten streak with four players named to the All-Skyline Conference Team.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair is 0-3 against Elmira, falling in 1992, 1995, and 1996. The matchup in Montclair in 1996 was the only marker Montclair has scored over the three games. Montclair is 0-1 against Christopher Newport, losing 5-1 in 2016. The Red Hawks have squared off with Manhattanville seven times, posting a 5-0-2 mark. Montclair is averaging 3.43 goals per game over those even games.

LAST MEETING
Montclair fell 2-1 to Elmira on September 15, 1992.
