Preview | Men's Soccer vs. Rowan (NJAC Championship)

Montclair, NJ – The No. 5 Montclair State University men's soccer team hosts second-seeded Rowan University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Game on Saturday.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students/senior citizens/children. All ticket sales are CASH ONLY.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (16-2-1, 9-0-0 NJAC) clipped fourth-seeded Stockton 2-1 on Wednesday night. After surrendering the opening marker in the 48th minute, OSBIN MENDEZ leveled the contest off an assist from AMER LUKOVIC in the 58th. As time ticked away, REED KARSEN drilled a shot off the crossbar with seven seconds left. The rebound went to SALEM ELLISY, who toe-poked the shot past the Stockton keeper with two seconds remaining for the win.

NJAC REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS
With the victory on October 21, the Red Hawks clinched the top seed in the NJAC Tournament, which begins Saturday. Montclair has now claimed the first two NJAC Regular Season Championships since they were awarded before the start of the 2022 campaign.

SCOUTING ROWAN
The Profs enter with a 9-3-5 record and finished with a 6-2-1 mark in the NJAC. Away from Glassboro, they had a 2-2-3 record. They are riding a five-game unbeaten streak, with the last setback against Montclair on October 7.

NJAC HISTORY
This will be the Red Hawks' 21st appearance in the NJAC Tournament, with Montclair posting a 25-10-2 mark. MSU has won eight championships in the tournament era, including four straight from 2006-2009 and three of the last six (2016, 2018, 2019).

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair is 35-37-6 against Rowan, with the best stretch coming from 2005 – 2010, when Montclair tallied eight straight wins. The matchup is the 12th in the NJAC Tournament, with Montclair posting a 7-5-0 record. Rowan has recorded wins in the last two seasons against the Red Hawks, including the NJAC Championship Game last fall.

LAST MEETING
Montclair downed Rowan 4-1 in Glassboro on October 7. IAN CHESNEY scored with 47 seconds left in the first half before AMER LUKOVIC doubled the advantage in the 48th. Rowan cut the deficit in half in the 56th minute before OWEN MURPHY and ANTHONY VIOLA polished off the scoring late in the game.

The winner of this matchup earns the NJAC automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with the selections to be revealed Monday at 2 pm.
