Box Score 2 Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Montclair State softball team topped Regis College and Eastern Nazarene College in the season-opening games Monday.
The Red Hawks (2-0) knocked off Regis 11-4 and Eastern Nazarene 9-8.
HOW IT HAPPENED (V. Regis)
- Montclair wasted little time, pushing a run across in the top of the first. ALYSSA BOROZAN singled to lead off the game and moved to third on groundouts. AMBER REED stepped up with two outs and singled to left-center, playing Borozan.
- Regis took a 3-1 lead after two, tallying three in the bottom of the second. The Red Hawks cut the lead in half in the third, as Borozan came across on an error. The senior laced a triple to right-center with one down in the frame.
- Reed gave the Red Hawks the advantage for good in the fifth, notching a two-run double. Borozan got on base with an infield hit and swiped second. KAYLA COSENTINO walked and both runners scored on the hit to center by Reed. STEPHANIE SERETIS brought Reed home by reaching on an error with two outs.
- The Pride got a run back in the fifth, but Montclair exploded for six runs on five hits in the top of the sixth. KAYLEE DELOSSANTOS had an RBI single, Seretis delivered an RBI double, and newcomer LIZ MULLEN produced a two-run single.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (Vs. Regis)
- Borozan went 4-for-5 with four runs scored in the leadoff spot, as Reed drove in three runs.
- Playing in her first game, DelosSantos was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
- ALI CAVALLARO earned the win, striking out eight in six innings
