Griffith, Thomas Post Victories At NJAC Indoor Championships

Staten Island, NY – JOHN GRIFFITH and JABEZ THOMAS posted victories as the Montclair State University men's indoor track & field team placed fourth at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The senior notched victories in both the weight throw and the shot put. Griffith eclipsed the school-record in the weight throw by throwing 17.58m on his final attempt. He shattered Eugene Asimou's previous mark of 16.31m, which has stood since 2010.
  • Griffith climbed up to 17th nationally with his victory in the shot put. After reaching 15.82m on his first throw, the junior hit 16.46m on his second try to win. He was the only one to throw over 16m, winning by 1.17m.
  • JABEZ THOMAS was the final winner on the men's side, taking first in the triple jump. He saved his best for last, notching a PR with a distance of 14.43m. He moved to 13th in the country the distance and edged second place by .21m.
  • OWEN FOGARTY finished third in the pole vault, reaching a height of 4.3m. BECK DEENY (13.46m) and JALANI JOSEPH (13.28m) posted top-six marks in the triple jump, with ANTHONY DIMAULO placing fourth in the long jump (6.55m).
  • The 4x400 relay finished third, as ANTHONY HOLMES, SHELDON AGYEMANG, MYLES DAY, and JABEZ THOMAS turned in a time of 3:27.1. The distance medley relay team of SEBASTIAN RUIZ, SEBASTIAN MOREY, ALEX CARAMELLI, and KAMAL KHAN took fifth, clocking in at 11:07.86.
  • Ruiz took sixth in the 800, recording a time of 1:59.72, as Joseph was fifth in the high jump (1.83m).

The Red Hawks will compete at the AARTFC Indoor Championships in Rochester, NY on March 1-2.
