Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team opens their 2024 season on Saturday afternoon as they travel to take on Penn College.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks fell to Salisbury 23-7 in the CLC Tournament Semifinals on May 5, 2023. Salisbury opened the contest with the first seven goals of the contest and went into the break up 13-1. Montclair dug into the lead with three-consecutive goals midway through the third. The Sea Gulls responded with five-straight goals and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way. TYLER MCCREERY and MATT DANCSECS recorded two goals each for Montclair.

2023 SEASON IN REVIEW
The Red Hawks posted 10 victories and advanced to the Coastal Lacrosse Conference Semifinals during the 2023 campaign. TYLER MCCREERY became the program's all-time leading scorer, finishing with 294 points for his Montclair career. McCreery and DAVID METZGER each earned Second Team All-CLC honors.

SCOUTING PENN COLLEGE
The Wildcats have dropped their first two contests of 2024, including a 10-9 setback against Westminster on Wednesday, February 21. They accumulated a 11-7 record last year and fell in the United East Playoffs to Morrisville State. Penn College returned its leading scorer from 2023 in Sam Hills, who finished with 37 on the campaign to go along with 20 assists. Montclair is the first of two CLC opponents for the Wildcats this season as they will host Kean on April 10.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will mark the second-ever contest between the two sides. Montclair won the first-ever meeting on April 22, 2023 at Sprague Field.

LAST MEETING
Montclair defeated Penn College 21-8 on April 22, 2023 to close out their regular season home slate at Sprague Field. The Red Hawks built a strong lead behind a 9-0 first quarter and outscored the Wildcats 6-3 in the second to go into the break up by 12 goals. Penn scored three of the first five in the third before Montclair rattled off four-straight of their own bridging quarters. They led the entire contest. JOE COVINO led the Red Hawks with five goals, and TYLER MCCREERY notched two goals and six assists.

The Red Hawks will host FDU-Florham in their 2024 home opener on Saturday, March 2. Face-off from Sprague Field is slated for 11:00 AM.
