Khan Sets 5K Record At Fastrack National Invitational

Staten Island, NY – KAMAL KHAN broke the school record in the 5,000-meter as the Montclair State University men's indoor track & field team competed at the Fastrack National Invitational on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Khan's time of 15:51.29 was the first time in program history a student-athlete posted a sub-16 minute time in the 5K. He surpassed Matthew Carmichael's previous best time of 16:00.56, set on January 31, 2020.
The 4x400 relay team of DANIEL ALSINA, DAMJAN DIMITROVSKI, NICHOLAS SCHAFFER, and COURTNEY ROGERS JR. took fifth with a time of 3:29.39, with Rogers (23.18), Alsina (23.29), and Schaffer competing in the 200 as well.
SHELDON AGYEMANG (7.31) and KEVIN PEREIRA (7.32) finished back-to-back in the 60-meter dash, with SEBASTIAN RUIZ clocking in at 53.02 in the 400m
KEYSHAWN DIXON placed fourth in the long jump (6.46m) as JALANI JOSEPH qualified for Regionals with a distance of 13.52m in the triple jump. JOHN GRIFFITH had a strong showing, as he was fifth in the shot put (15.61m) and sixth in the weight throw (15.87m).

"First, big congratulations to KAMAL KHAN for the school record in the 5K. Not our best day performance wise but I still saw a lot of positives. We get a full week of training and then get to compete at NJACs. Excited to see how we will perform." – Head Coach Ian Carter.

The Red Hawks return to the track on February 19, competing in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex at 4 pm.
