Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State softball team opens their season with a pair of games in Florida on Sunday.

The Red Hawks will battle Cortland at 11:15 am before taking on Catholic University at 4 pm. Both games will be played in Kissimmee, Florida. Live stats for the Cortland game and video through Flo Sports are available on montclairathletics.com.
 
2023 SEASON REWIND
Montclair State started the year hot, winning five of six games in Myrtle Beach, and saw ALYSSA BOROZAN eclipse the 100-hit plateau in the process. They notched victories in seven of eight games after returning to the Garden State and notched a thrilling 7-6 extra-inning, walk-off win over John Jay. The Red Hawks closed out the year strong, picking up triumphs in three of the last four contests, including a 2-1 extra-inning win over Stockton in the season finale.

SCOUTING CORTLAND
The Red Dragons, who posted a 24-13 last season, have yet to play a game. They claimed the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament last season but fell in the third game of the double-elimination tournament. They had six student-athletes named to the NFCA Scholar-Athlete Team and return All-Region performer Halle Wright.
 
SCOUTING CATHOLIC
The Cardinals enter the game with a 2-2 mark, having split doubleheaders with Ursinus and Hood. Catholic, who was pegged third in the Landmark Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, return All-Region selection Alex Garza and former Division I transfer Sophia Fike.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The Red Hawks are 15-6 against Cortland, with Cortland winning three of the last four games. Montclair is averaging 5.67 runs per game across the 21 games. Montclair and Catholic have never met.
