Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team returns home to face Maritime College Wednesday evening.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks narrowly fell to the University of Scranton 12-9 on Wednesday, March 6. Scranton opened the scoring two minutes in, but the Red Hawks responded two seconds later with a goal from WILL GINCH. After the Royals reclaimed the lead, Montclair responded with two straight from ETHAN MOUNIER and RYAN VIERBUCHEN. Scranton scored nine of the next 11 to take a 11-5 advantage with 8:35 remaining in the third frame. The Red Hawks scored four of the remaining five goals, but the Royals held on for the victory. BRANDON SHEVINS tallied a career-high 20 saves, which is tied for fifth-most in a single game in program history and only the fourth time over the last 10 seasons a goalkeeper has tallied 20 or more saves.

SCOUTING MARITIME
The Privateers enter Wednesday's contest with a 3-2 mark on the season after finishing at 13-6 for their 2023 campaign. After losing five of their first six games, Maritime rattled off 12 straight victories before falling in the Skyline Conference Championship Game. They opened 2024 with wins over New Paltz and Salve Regina before dropping games at Stevens and Stockton. The Privateers took down Coast Guard 13-7 in their most recent contest on Wednesday, March 6. Maritime was picked first in the 2024 Skyline Conference Preseason Coaches Poll with seven first place votes.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair leads the all-time series against Maritime 38-5, including 22 victories at Sprague Field. From 1988 to 2019, the Red Hawks claimed 31 consecutive games against the Privateers. Montclair has scored 20 or more goals in five of the last eight meetings between the two sides. 

LAST MEETING
Montclair fell to Maritime 17-11 on March 25, 2023, snapping a 31 game winning streak against the Privateers. After Maritime scored the first three goals of the contest, Montclair responded with two of the next three, as RYAN VIERBUCHEN and TYLER MCCREERY found the back of the next to make the margin 4-2. Trailing by three entering the second half, JOE COVINO added a marker to make the score 6-4, but the Privateers scored five of the next six to take a six goal lead. Montclair scored twice in the waning moments of the fourth, but Maritime held on for the victory.

The Red Hawks will travel to take on DeSales University on Saturday, March 16. Faceoff from Center Valley, PA is slated for 4:00 PM.
