Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team hosts Kean University in its 2024 regular season home finale on Wednesday night.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks fell to Stockton 15-11 on Saturday, April 13. The Ospreys opened the scoring before JACK CLEARY netted his first marker of the game to tie the contest. Stockton opened up a three-goal lead in the final five minutes of the first quarter. Playing a man down, RYAN VIERBUCHEN cut the deficit to two off a feed from ETHAN MOUNIER. The Ospreys registered the final three goals of the half to go into the break up 7-2. Viebuchen opened the third stanza, and Montclair scored three of the next five to cut into the deficit. Stockton tallied four-straight over the final minutes of the third bridging into the start of the fourth. After Cleary connected on an unassisted marker, the Ospreys netted two more to expand the margin back to eight. Montclair scored the final four goals of the night, but Stockton held on for the home victory.

SCOUTING KEAN
The Cougars enter Wednesday night's contest looking for their first Coastal Lacrosse Conference victory of the campaign after starting 0-3 in conference play. After dropping two of their first three contests, Kean defeated Emmanuel and Emerson to get back to .500. They narrowly fell to Roger Williams in their next contest, but responded with four-straight victories. Kean fell to #1 Salisbury in their CLC opener and were edged by Stockton by one in overtime. After bouncing back with a nonconference win over Penn College, the Cougars were defeated by #8 Christopher Newport in their most recent contest. Kean went 11-8 during the 2023 season and were tabbed fourth in the 2024 CLC Coaches Preseason Poll.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair holds a 49-18 advantage in the all-time series with Kean dating back to 1973, including a 32-7 mark at Sprague Field. The Red Hawks have claimed the last three meetings with the Cougars as well as the last two meetings at home. Montclair will look for its 30th all-time conference win against Kean in the contest, sporting a 29-8 all-time mark against the in-state rival in conference games.

LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks earned a road victory over Kean, taking down the Cougars 12-8 on April 26, 2023. Kean opened the scoring and held Montclair without a goal for the opening five minutes before the Red Hawks rattled off five-straight over the remainder of the first and into the start of the second. The Cougars scored the final goal of the first half, but Montclair opened the third with three-straight, as MATT DANCSECS found the back of the net and RYAN VIERBUCHEN netted two. Kean scored with two seconds remaining in the third, but the duo of Dancsecs and Vierbuchen opened the fourth with a goal each to make the score 10-3 with 11:52 remaining. The home side answered with five-consecutive markers to cut the deficit to two with just under six minutes remaining, but Vierbuchen struck for two more over the remainder of the contest to give Montclair the road victory.

The Red Hawks will conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 20 against #1 Salisbury University. Opening faceoff from Salisbury, MD is slated for 1:00 PM.
