Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's lacrosse team travels to face the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (4-5) fell to #6 Christopher Newport 12-6 on Saturday, March 30 at Sprague Field. Montclair fell behind on the first possession of the contest, but leveled at the five minute mark of the first quarter as CODY COOPER found RYAN VIERBUCHEN. The visitors reclaimed the advantage less than a minute later and scored three more times to open the second frame to build a four-goal advantage that they carried into the half. Montclair started the third stanza strong with goals from JACK CLEARY and JACKSON SIMONS to make the score 5-3 at the 6:18 mark. The Captains rattled off three-straight goals in the opening three minutes of the final frame to build a five-goal lead. ETHAN MOUNIER answered with a goal, but Christopher Newport responded with three consecutive markers to make the score 11-4. Vierbuchen and Cleary found the back of the net down the stretch, but the Captains used a final goal with 88 seconds left to help seal the victory.

SCOUTING MARY WASHINGTON
The Eagles enter Saturday's contest with a 6-5 mark on the 2024 campaign. They fell in two of their first three games before rattling off victories against Bridgewater, Eastern, and Washington College. After dropping games at Messiah and Catholic, they bounced back with a 10-4 victory over Susquehanna and a 16-7 triumph over Marymount. The Eagles narrowly fell to Stockton 18-17 in their Coastal Lacrosse Conference opener on Saturday, March 30. Mary Washington went 7-11 during the 2023 season with an appearance in the first-ever CLC Tournament. They were picked sixth in the 2024 CLC Preseason Coaches Poll.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair and May Washington have met three times in their history, with the Red Hawks holding a slight 2-1 edge in the all-time series. The Eagles claimed the first-ever meeting in 2003, with the Red Hawks notching two victories during the 2023 campaign. Both sides combined for 60 goals during the two contests last season.

LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks defeated Mary Washington 18-14 in the CLC Quarterfinals on May 2, 2023 at Sprague Field. The two sides combined for five markers in the first 4:16, with the Eagles tallying six of the following eight goals to open a 9-5 advantage. MATT DANCSECS pumped in a pair of man-up goals late in the second quarter, but the Eagles went into the break up 10-7. After the teams traded goals early in the third, the Red Hawks reeled off four straight markers to grab the lead. Mary Washington jumped back in front, but the sides went into the fourth level at 13 before Montclair ended the game on a 5-1 run.
