LAST TIME OUT
Montclair found itself in a shootout with Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, but bested the Scarlet Raiders, 6-4. The Red Hawks fell behind in the fourth minute, as the Scarlet Raiders caused a turnover in the final third, ripped a shot on goal, and capitalized on a loose ball in front of the frame. Montclair countered in the 27th minute, as CARLOS BEDOYA bent in an in-swinging service off a restart that found KENNETH NEVES unmarked at the back post, who flicked a header past the keeper. Four minutes later, Rutgers-Newark regained the advantage on a ball served in off a free kick from the near edge of the box that was headed into the near corner of the net. Shortly after, TOMAS MONTEIRO collected the ball on the far touch line and surged ahead towards goal, poking a shot past the keeper as the keeper surged off his line into the back of the net to equalize. One minute later,
KYLE MOORE headed a pass towards Monteiro right in front of goal, who chested the ball out towards
KENET LOPEZ. The midfielder ran towards the ball and flicked a right-footed shot into the back of the net to put Montclair up at the break. Coming out of the break, the Red Hawks doubled their advantage in the 49th minute, as KEVIN CONTRERAS ripped a shot from well outside the box off a feed from Lopez. The Scarlet Raiders cut into the deficit in the 58th minute on a shot from just inside the box, but Montclair countered six minutes later as Contreras found DANNY TOBON on the edge of the box. The striker collected the ball, cut towards the center of the frame, and sent a right-footed shot towards the far post. In the 71st minute, the Red Hawks added their final goal of the contest as Bedoya played a ball over the top of the defense to Moore, who cut around the keeper and slotted a shot in. Rutgers-Newark notched a goal in the waning moments of the match, but Montclair held on for the victory.
