Ewing, NJ - The Montclair State University women's outdoor track and field team competed on day one of the NJAC Championships at the College of New Jersey, where freshman
MCKAY ALBY broke the 100-meter dash record on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alby's time of 12.23 outraced the competition for a first-place finish in the preliminary round and earned her spot in the finals tomorrow. MAILE O'NEILL also earned herself a spot in tomorrow's finals when she placed fourth with a time of 12.57.
- JESSICA HOLLER currently stands in third place after the first day of the Heptathlon. The events she has competed in are the 100-meter hurdles (16.62), the high jump (1.36m), the shot put (7.31m), and the 200-meter dash (25.75). Tomorrow she will conclude it with the long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run.
- DENISSE AGUILAR finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run when she clocked a 40:00.71.
- JULIA ACEVEDO competed in the 400-meter hurdles. She clocked a time of 1:06.71 that was good for a sixth-place finish.
- MAYA YESALONIS also placed sixth when she threw for a distance of 43.56m (142' 11") in the hammer throw.
- Kaitlyn Chirkis earned herself a top-10 finish when she placed eighth in the javelin with a distance of 32.01m (105').
- KAELYN RODRIGUEZ rounded out the top-10 finishes for the Red Hawks in the long jump. She jumped a distance of 4.92m (16' 1.75") for 10th place. She was followed directly by Maryam Karyim, who placed 11th with a mark of 4.91m (16' 1.5").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Alby bested her own record that she set at the beginning of the season at the Ramapo T&F Invitational when she clocked a time of 12.28. She also earned a regional qualifying mark with her run.
- Aguilar and Acevedo each earned regional qualifying times in their respective events.
- Chirkris earned a season-best mark with her javelin throw today.
- Yesalonis earned a season-best mark today and ranks second all-time with her throw.
