Four From Men’s Basketball Selected to NABC Honors Court; Team Earns Academic Excellence Award

Kansas City, Mo. – As announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the Montclair State University men's basketball team had four student-athletes named to the NABC Honors Court, while the team as a whole earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization revealed Thursday afternoon.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes programs that finished the 2024–25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court honors junior, senior, and graduate-level men's basketball players who posted a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher during the academic year.

These academic accolades are presented annually to student-athletes and programs across all levels of collegiate basketball.

More than 2,400 players were named to the NABC Honors Court, and nearly 400 programs earned Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2024–25.

Representing Montclair State on the Honors Court were GRANT HOLBROOK, KIERAN FLANAGAN, LUIS ARMAS, and TYSON ALLEN.

Holbrook, a Business Administration major, wrapped up his final season by appearing in 26 games and posting a 3.74 GPA. He recorded 29 points and 35 rebounds on the year, including a season-high seven points in an 88–84 road victory over nationally ranked Stockton.

Flanagan, an Exercise Science major, started all 29 games and earned a 3.30 GPA. He became the program's all-time leader in games played and started with 117. This season, he led the team in assists with 134, which also ranked second in the NJAC. He added 234 points, 134 rebounds, and 47 steals. His standout performance came in a 97–78 home win over Kean, where he tallied 18 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds.

Armas, a Biology major, appeared in 20 games and posted a 3.79 GPA. He recorded 62 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists for the season. His best game came in the season opener at Alfred, where he scored 14 points to help lead the Red Hawks to a 95–85 victory.

Allen, a Business Administration major, played in two games before an injury cut his season short. He maintained a 3.57 GPA and recorded four points in a game against Ramapo.

Montclair State capped off a historic season with a 3.12 team GPA. On the court, the Red Hawks finished 22–7 overall and 14–4 in NJAC play. They captured their first NJAC regular-season title since 1981–82, won the NJAC Tournament Championship for the first time since 2002–03, and claimed their first home NCAA Tournament win in program history — also their first NCAA victory since 2002–03.
