Beal Notches School Record in 60m for Men's Track & Field on First Day of NJAC Championships

Philadelphia, PA – The Montclair State University Men's Track & Field team opened up competition at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday night.

The Red Hawks rank fifth among the field with 19 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the 60m prelims, JAHMIR BEAL clocked in with a school record time of 6.88 seconds, sitting fourth among the field, with JAYSON ELLIS right behind at 6.92 seconds. Both have advanced to the finals of the event, which will take place on the next date of competition.
In the long jump, JALEN BALBUENA recorded a fourth place finish with a mark of 7.16m, with ELIAS HANLEY right behind in fifth at 7.04m. SHELDON AGYEMANG rounded out the group in sixth at 6.93m.
Remaining in the field events, BRYAN ALVAREZ notched a mark of 13.74m in the shot put to place seventh. JABRI JOSEPH tallied a career-best mark of 13.10m and a top ten placement, ranking ninth.
The 4x200m relay team of Beal, Hanley, JESSE BAIDOO, and Ellis finished fourth with a season-best time of 1:28.74. The time ranks second in program history, one second off the school record.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

Beal's time in the 60m marks the new 42nd best time in Division III, with Christopher Scott also notching a career-best in the event.
The marks in the long jump for Balbuena and Hanley are new personal-bests.

The Red Hawks will return to the Ott Center on Friday, February 27, for the second day of NJAC Championships, scheduled for a 3:30 PM start in Philadelphia, PA.
