Potts Honored as All-Met Division III Coach of the Year; Morales & Goss Named to All-Met Team

New York, NY- Announced on Monday afternoon by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers' Association (MBWA or MET), Montclair State University men's basketball head coach Justin Potts was honored as the All-Met Division III Coach of the Year. At the same time, senior JACOB MORALES and sophomore KABRIEN GOSS were named to the All-Met team for their performances this season.

Morales was a First Team selection, while Goss was selected to the Third Team.

Potts helped guide the program to one of the most successful regular seasons in the nation, finishing with a 25-3 overall record and a 17-1 mark in NJAC play. The team's 24-game winning streak set a program record and tied the NJAC record previously held by the 1988-89 TCNJ squad. The Red Hawks also became the first NJAC program to be ranked No. 1 in the nation during the D3hoops.com Poll era. Montclair was the final undefeated team in Division III men's basketball and, until the final game of the regular season, one of only three undefeated teams across all NCAA divisions.

As a team, the Red Hawks ranked first in the nation in total assists (538) and assists per game (21.5), second in three-point percentage (.402) and three-pointers made (325), and are among the top 12 nationally in field goal percentage (.495), scoring offense (92.7 ppg), steals per game (12.1), and scoring margin (15.0).

Potts earned All-Met Coach of the Year for the second time in four seasons, earning it back in 2023. He also adds this onto the NABC District IV Coach of the Year and NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year accolades he earned earlier this year.

A three-time NJAC Player of the Week, Morales once again ranked among the nation's leaders from beyond the arc. His 85 made three-pointers and 3.40 three-pointers made per game were tied for the fifth-best marks in the nation during the regular season. He recorded 12 games with 20 or more points, including three contests with 30 or more points. Morales helped lead Montclair to a program-record number of wins, the No. 1 ranking in the nation for two weeks, an NJAC Regular-Season Championship, and an appearance in the NJAC Championship game for the second consecutive season.

Morales adds to his long list of accolades, which includes D3hoops.com Fourth Team All-American, NABC Second Team All-American, NABC First Team All-Region, D3Hoops.com Region 4 Player of the Year, D3Hoops.com First Team All-Region 4, NJAC Player of the Year, and First Team All-NJAC.

Goss adds this accolade to Third Team All-Region IV and Second Team All-NJAC honors he earned earlier this season. An NJAC Player of the Week and D3hoops.com Team of the Week selection, Goss shot .463 from the floor and .450 from three-point range, the 15th-best mark in the nation during the regular season. His 149 assists and 6.0 assists per game ranked 12th in Division III and third in single-season program history. Goss was a key component in Montclair's rise as one of the top teams in the nation this season.

Montclair concluded its historic season with a 25-3 overall record and a 17-1 mark in NJAC play, winning back-to-back NJAC Regular-Season Championships. The Red Hawks also returned to the NJAC Championship game for the second straight season and hosted an NCAA First and Second Round pod for the second consecutive year.
