Pitman, NJ - The #13/15 Montclair State University Baseball team placed eight on the All-NJAC Team for the 2026 season, the New Jersey Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday morning.
ZACH STEARNS, MATT KALISKE, and MICHAEL WANSAW JR. collected First Team honors with the trio of LUKAS EGENHAUSER, JARED LEVIS, and CHRIS MATESIC being named to the Second Team. The freshman duo of DANNY O'BRIEN and JOHN TOMSHO earned Honorable Mention recognition.
Stearns, a four-year standout for the Red Hawks at catcher, put together a stellar senior season by slashing .365/.587/.539 across 38 games. He collected 42 hits, drove in 32 runs, doubled nine times, and hit a career-best three home runs. His .587 on-base percentage for the season is currently tied with John Deutsch for the program's all-time single season mark. Stearns also set the new Division III record for hit-by-pitches in a single season at 37. In NJAC play, he led the league in on-base percentage while amassing 23 hits and 12 RBI, putting together an OPS of 1.066.Â
Kaliske, another four-year member of the program, also shined in his final year by posting a slash line of .347/.453/.593 as the team's designated hitter, with the slugging percentage being a team-high. He rattled off 41 hits, 35 runs batted in, a team-best 12 doubles, and was tied for the team lead in home runs with five. All of those metrics marked new career-highs, as he led the NJAC in slugging during league play at .672, totaling 26 hits with a league-high eight doubles. His OPS of 1.190 also sat atop the conference, putting together nine multi-hit games during NJAC play. Kaliske totaled a career-high five hits against TCNJ on April 11, driving in three runs on a pair of doubles.
Wansaw registered incredible numbers patrolling center field for the Red Hawks, slashing .416/.458/.555 for an OPS of 1.013 that ranked third on the team. He led the team in hits with 57, which was tied for third in the league across the regular season. The senior drove in 31 runs, doubling nine times and tripling three times. In NJAC play, he was tied for the conference lead in hits with 30, driving in 16 runs while batting .423. Over the final 11 games of league play, he amassed a hitting streak in which he compiled 22 base hits, including a stretch of three games in which he notched four at NJCU (April 16) and three in both games against Rutgers-Camden (April 18).
Egenhauser, a two-year member of the program, shined both at the plate and defensively at shortstop for the Red Hawks. He slashed .343/.409/.394 for the full season, registering 47 hits and 37 runs batted in. Defensively, he helped turn 15 double plays, assisting on 120 putouts while recording 42 of his own to anchor the middle of the infield. Egenhauser notched a hit or more in 12 of his final 15 NJAC games, finishing with 24 during the league slate, driving in 21 runs. The shortstop batted .358 during conference play, driving in four runs on a trio of hits against Rutgers-Camden on April 18.
Levis shined once again in his second year as a starter atop the Montclair lineup in right field, building off his NJAC Honorable Mention honors in 2025. The junior collected a .388/.521/.460 slash line for the campaign, totaling 54 hits, 32 runs batted in, six doubles, a pair of triples, and a team-high 30 walks. Levis set the program single-season record for stolen bases at 34, leading the NJAC both overall and in conference play on the basepaths. In NJAC play, he totaled 26 hits and drove in 15 runs, batting .366 with an on-base percentage of .489. He finished the final four games of the regular season with five hits and seven runs batted in, and registered nine multi-hit performances across the 18-game league slate.
Matesic was a steady force on the mound for the Red Hawks during his freshman season, putting together a 8-0 record while starting all 10 of his appearances. He amassed 52 and two thirds innings, posting an ERA of 2.73 and a WHIP of 1.16. The freshman struck out 39 batters while allowing just 17 runs across the campaign. He earned a complete-game shutout in Montclair's victory over Westfield State, allowing just five total baserunners. Matesic struck out eight batters in a pair of starts, including a stellar performance against #7 Rowan in which he collected seven and a third innings pitched en route to the victory. His eight runs allowed in league play were the second-fewest, tossing 25 and two thirds frames.
O'Brien, another freshman, helped anchor the hot corner for Montclair and slashed .398/.478/.466 at the plate during his first season. He totaled 53 hits and drove in 39 runs, a mark that ranked second on the team, while adding seven doubles and 15 walks. In conference play, O'Brien ranked tied for second with 29 hits and tied for third in runs batted in with 13. The freshman began his collegiate career with a hit or more in 13 of his first 14 games, a stretch that included a hitting streak of 11 games. O'Brien has 17 career multi-hit performances and has driven in multiple runs in 10 contests. He put in a career day against TCNJ on April 11, driving in five runs on four hits.Â
Tomsho rounds out the group as another standout member of the freshman class, slashing .376/.417/.554 for the campaign while totaling 38 hits, 28 runs batted in, and eight doubles to put together an OPS of .971. The outfielder collected 21 hits in conference play, batting .375 and driving in 14 runs. Tomsho has notched a hit in 24 of his 27 collegiate games, including separate hitting streaks of 12 and 13 games. The freshman registered four performances with a trio of hits, including a game against Rutgers-Camden on April 18 in which he drove in a pair of runs.Â
The Red Hawks will open postseason play on Thursday, April 30, against William Paterson in the NJAC Tournament Semifinals. First pitch from Yogi Berra Stadium is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
