Baseball Places Eight on ABCA/Rawlings and D3Baseball.com All-Region Teams

Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State University Baseball team placed eight across the 2026 American Baseball Coaches Association and D3Baseball.com All-Region teams on Tuesday morning.

Montclair saw ZACH STEARNS be named First Team All-Region by ABCA/Rawlings, with DANNY O'BRIEN and CHRIS MATESIC collecting Second Team honors. BILLY TIGAR, MICHAEL WANSAW JR., COLIN DOWLEN, and PATRICK TEEHAN all earned Third Team recognition.

O'Brien and MATT KALISKE were named Second Team All-Region by D3Baseball.com, and Stearns and Matesic earned Third Team honors.

Stearns capped off his collegiate tenure with a strong senior campaign, notching new career highs in hits (49), runs batted in (33), doubles (10), and home runs (3) while slashing a four-year best .380/.589/.543. He set the NCAA Division III record for single season hit-by-pitches with 40, combining with 27 walks to help boost his on-base percentage to the second best mark in the NJAC at .589, which also surpassed Hall of Famer John Deutsch for the best total in program history. In NJAC play, he put together an OPS of 1.066 while totaling 23 hits and 12 RBI, leading the league in on-base percentage during that stretch.

O'Brien put together a stellar freshman campaign for the Red Hawks, slashing .400/.472/.473 while starting all 39 of his appearances. He totaled 60 hits, which ranked second on the team and were tied for sixth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Woodlands, Texas native drove in a team-best 45 runs while collecting 10 extra base hits and 17 walks. O'Brien began his collegiate career with a hit or more in 13 of his first 14 games, a stretch that included a streak of 11 games. O'Brien has 18 career multi-hit performances and has driven in multiple runs in 11 contests. He shined in Montclair's first NCAA Tournament victory since 2008, plating six runs on five hits against Whitworth on May 15.

Kaliske, a four-year member of the program, put together a career year at the plate for the Red Hawks. The graduate student slashed .336/.435/.560 and totaled 45 hits and 37 runs batted in, leading the team with 13 doubles across 39 appearances and 36 starts. He collected five home runs, which ranked second on the team. Kaliske's slugging percentage of .560 ranked sixth in the NJAC, with his OPS of 1.190 through the end of the regular season being a conference-best. He totaled a career-high five hits against TCNJ on April 11, driving in three runs on a pair of doubles.

Matesic stood tall on the mound for the Red Hawks, kicking off his collegiate career by starting all 12 of his appearances and posting eight victories. He logged 61.1 innings, which was the second-most on the team, while posting a 3.08 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 47 strikeouts. He earned a complete-game shutout in Montclair's victory over Westfield State, allowing just five total baserunners. Matesic struck out eight batters in a pair of starts, including a stellar performance against #7 Rowan in which he collected seven and a third innings pitched en route to the victory. His eight runs allowed in league play were the second-fewest, tossing 25 and two thirds frames.

Tigar posted strong numbers at the plate during the 2026 campaign, slashing .365/.436/.500 while totaling 57 hits, 40 runs batted in, 15 walks, nine doubles, three triples, and a pair of home runs. The junior, who started all 42 games, ranked fourth on the team in hits and second in runs batted in. He carried a hitting streak over from the 2025 season, extending it to 31 games through half of the current year. During that stretch, he amassed 61 hits and 49 runs batted in. Tigar's banner performance of the year came against MIT on March 15, when he plated seven runs on three hits, including a grand slam.

Wansaw patrolled center field for the Red Hawks and notched strong numbers at the plate during his senior season, slashing .407/.447/.533 and ranking atop the team in batting average. His .980 OPS sat third on the team among qualified hitters, totaling a team-high 61 hits which was tied for fourth in the NJAC. Wansaw drove in 33 runs, notching 10 doubles, three triples, and a home run. He ended the campaign with a 15-game hitting streak in which he totaled 26 hits, including a stretch of three games in which he totaled four at NJCU (April 16) and three in both games against Rutgers-Camden (April 18).

Dowlen logged a team-leading 63.2 innings on the mound for the Red Hawks, starting all 11 of his appearances while posting eight victories along with a 3.82 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. He notched a team-leading 65 strikeouts, punching out eight or more in four starts. The senior struck out a career-high nine batters in the team's season opener against UMass Dartmouth on February 20 and went a career-best eight frames against Rutgers-Newark on April 26, setting down eight batters via strikeout. Dowlen earned the victory in Montclair's first NCAA Tournament win since 2008, spinning six and a third innings.

Teehan became Montclair's all-time saves leader in the season opener and finished the year with seven to cap off his career at 19. The graduate student logged 22.1 innings out of the bullpen, posting a 3.22 ERA and 1.39 WHIP along with 28 strikeouts. He led the league in saves, and struck out three or more batters in four appearances. Teehan shut the door against Whitworth in the NCAA Tournament to seal the postseason victory for the Red Hawks. He has earned ABCA All-Region honors in back-to-back seasons.
