Churchill Becomes NJAC Champion in 10,000m; Women's Track & Field Opens NJAC Championships

Mahwah, NJ ABIGAIL CHURCHILL became a New Jersey Athletic Conference champion in the 10,000m as the Montclair State University Women's Track & Field team opened up the 2026 NJAC Championships on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Churchill recorded an AARTFC qualifying time of 39:36.12 in the 10,000m, taking the lead during the final three laps of the race to surge to the finish line.
  • The sprint group put together another strong performance in the 100m, as the Red Hawks saw three qualify for the event's final on Sunday. MCKAY ALBY ranked second among the field at 12.02 seconds, with MAILE O'NEILL (12.40 seconds) and AISHA GARCIA (12.42 seconds) sitting fifth and sixth respectively. All three were AARTFC qualifying times. FAITH WILLIAMS rounded out the group in the top 15 with a time of 12.63 seconds, placing 13th.
  • The duo of Alby and O'Neill also qualified for the final in the 200m with AARTFC qualifying times, as Alby clocked in at a school record 24.83 seconds (second among field) and O'Neill at 25.42 seconds (sixth among field).
  • Montclair saw a trio of AARTFC qualifying marks in the javelin throw, led by CALI RAE ONUSKA's mark of 37.04m that placed her fourth in the event. KAITLYN CHIRKIS was right behind in fifth at 35.70m, and IZZIE DECREASE in sixth at 35.67m. CAMILA REVAITIS rounded out the group in seventh, finishing the day with a mark of 33.57m.
  • In the hammer throw, MAYA YESALONIS notched a top five finish at 42.11m. Chirkis ranked 11th with a mark of 36.32m, with JAELANI HERNANDEZ finishing 13th at 33.02m.
  • Going into the final three events on Sunday, JESSICA HOLLER ranks second in the heptathlon. She notched times of 16.92 seconds in the 100m hurdles and 27.70 seconds in the 200m and collected marks of 1.38m in the high jump and 8.47m in the shot put.
  • ALICIA RIGGINS qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles with an AARTFC qualifying time of 15.10 seconds. In the 3000m steeplechase, BRIANNA RODDY collected a fifth-place time of 12:37.79. 
  • In the long jump, ZAIDA TAYLOR-BURCH ranked seventh with a mark of 4.98m. CHARLEY KLINE (4.83m) and KAELYN RODRIGUEZ (4.79m) rounded out the group in 11th and 13th, respectively.
  • In the 400m, ODALYS GUERRERO-DOMINGUEZ placed 12th with a time of 1:01.66, and A'SYA BROWN clocked in at 15th with a time of 1:02.95.
INSIDE THE RESULTS
  • The Red Hawks finished the first day of the competition in fourth place, collecting 34 points for the afternoon. 
  • Churchill became the first Red Hawk in program history to become an NJAC Champion in the 10,000m and the first to hit the podium since 2022.

The Red Hawks will return to Ramapo for the second day of the 2026 NJAC Championships, with the meet scheduled to resume at 10:00 AM in Mahwah, NJ.
