Moon Township, PA (1/19/03) - The Montclair State men's and women's indoor track and field teams posted five first-place finishes at the Robert Morris University Invitational held on Sunday afternoon. The meet was a non-team scoring event.
On the men's side, DARRYL LOUIS (Trenton, NJ/Trenton) and junior ALEX TORRES (Irvington, NJ/Roselle Catholic) continued their own individual competition in the 400 meters. Louis won the event as he posted a time of 49.55. Torres, who edged out Louis at the Yale Classic on January 11th, finished second in a time of 50.07. Also on the men's side, the Red Hawks finished first and third in the 4x400 relay with times of 3:22.8 and 3:31.7, respectively.
Among the other finishes for MSU, PAUL NOEL (East Orange, NJ/Bishop Francis) won the 500 meters. Noel posted a time of 1:08.64. OSEI BONSU (Parlin, NJ/Old Bridge) placed third in the 55 Hurdles (7.88), while Louis was fourth in the 200 meters (23.56).
On the women's side, TIERRA HICKS (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillborough) won the 400 meters with a time of 57.80. It is the second straight week that Hicks won a 400-meter event, having taken first at the Yale Classic on January 11th. Also for MSU, freshman HASHAN JOHNSON (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton), continued her strong season with another first-place finish in the long jump. Johnson recorded a winning leap of 5.36 meters on her final jump after faulting on her previous three attempts.
Montclair State will return to action on Saturday, January 25th as they compete at the Terrier Classic in Boston, MA.
