Greencastle, IN (3/15/03) - Senior sprinter Tierra Hicks (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and the Red Hawk men's 1,600 meter relay team each earned All-America honors as Montclair State finished in 36th place in both the men's and women's sections of the 2003 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships held at DePauw University on March 14-15th.
Hicks placed 5th in the 400 Meters as she posted a time of 57.33. Meanwhile, the 1,600 relay team of Paul Noel (East Orange, NJ/Bishop Francis), Alex Torres (Irvington, NJ/Roselle Catholic), Ed Hamilton (Trenton, NJ/Ewing) and Darryl Louis (Trenton, NJ/Trenton) was fourth with a time of 3:18.32. The top six finishers in each event at the NCAA Championship are named All-Americans.
Hicks, who posted the second fastest time in the preliminary heat on Friday (56.73), ran a 57.33 in her heat on Saturday. The event was a timed final. Amber James of Wheaton College (Ma) won the event in a time of 55.47, the best time in Division III this season.
In the men's 1,600 meter relay, Wisconsin-La Crosse took the event by setting a Division III Championship record with a time of 3:13.68.
Wheaton College (MA) won its fifth straight women's championship while Wisconsin-La Crosse took home its third straight Division III Championship.
