Box Score MONTCLAIR, NJ - Montclair State University tallied 13 hits but were unable to re-take the lead as they fell to Neumann University 8-7 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Knights rallied for five runs in the fifth inning to go up 8-4 and held on for the win despite Red Hawk rallies in the late innings.
MSU scored four of their runs in the first inning in a rally highlighted by a two-RBI base hit by
JOE FOOTE that scored Phil Scott and
RYAN THIEME. Scott finished the day with three RBIs. Yet the Knights answered with three in the top of the second inning, and then held the Red Hawks in check until their five-run fifth. Spencer Young, Kyle Weller, and Nick Panissidi each had two RBIs in the contest.
Neumann reliever Taylor Reynolds entered with two outs in the first inning, and worked 4.1 frames of one-run ball to earn the win. Reynolds allowed four hits and a walk while striking out two. Endy Kutter pitched the final 1.2 innings and earned his first save of the year.

MATT LONG allowed just one hit and worked three innings without allowing an earned run.
JAY GORMAN pitched the final 4.1 innings for Montclair and allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three.
SEAN LEWANDOSKI took the loss.
The Red Hawks return home on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 to face New Jersey City University.
