THE TEAMS:
Both teams enter the game on opposite ends of the spectrum. Montclair State dropped its last two contests losing to second-seeded New Jersey City twice a week ago. Junior guard
MYLES MITCHELL-WHITE posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 76-67 loss to the Gothic Knights on Friday evening. The next day, a late charge by NJCU led to an 87-69 setback at the Panzer Athletic Center. Sophomore guard
KEYON PRYCE led with 16 pints with Mitchell-White (14 points),
MALACHI SMYTHE (13 points), and
IRVING CALLENDER IV (12 points) all hitting double figures. Meanwhile, the Pioneers swept their two-game set with Rutgers-Camden as it returned to action for the first time since its February 6 loss to MSU. William Paterson had to cancel its series with Rutgers-Newark (Feb. 12-13) and New Jersey City (Feb. 19-20) and was inactive until its Friday contest at Rutgers-Camden. Playing for the first time in three weeks, WPU never trailed as sophomore forward Yvens Monfleury scored 17 points in a 56-45 victory. The next day, Domenic Mignone scored a season-high 18 points as William Paterson rallied from nine down in the second half for a 60-55 win.
Montclair State and William Paterson begin their "second season" in the exact place the first one started a month ago – at the Panzer Athletic Center. The Red Hawks prevailed in that meeting on February 5, 83-70.
STEVEN BREEMAN notched a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds while Callender added 15. Pryce and
KIERAN FLANAGAN chipped in with 10 apiece. Monfleury tallied 23 points and 14 rebounds for WPU, which got 22 points from Cepeda. The next day, the Red Hawks opened up a 24-point lead in the first half before holding off the Pioneers late in an 83-79 win at the WPU Rec Center. Pryce notched a career-best 26 points with freshman
AMIR WILLIAMS adding 16. Monfleury led all scorers with 25 with Cepeda (19 points) and Lopez (15 points) and Mignone (14 points) scoring in double figures.
