Men's Soccer: Gameday Preview vs. RPI

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's soccer team kicks off their 2022 campaign by facing RPI Thursday evening.

2021 REWIND
The Red Hawks advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament last fall, dropping a 2-0 decision to Washington College. Montclair State, who earned the top seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament before falling to Rowan 1-0 in the Semifinals, knocked off Gordon College 1-0 in the First Round. The team brings a pair of All-American selections in AMER LUKOVIC and JOSIAH CRAWFORD, in addition to the NCAA Statistical Champion in goals against average in SHANE KEENAN.

SCOUTING RPI
The Engineers went 11-5-2 last season, including a 7-2 mark in the Liberty League. Despite claiming the top spot in the Liberty League Tournament last fall, the Engineers were eliminated in the Semifinals by St. Lawrence 2-0. Trevor Bisson was named the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, while the coaching staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year accolades.

LAST MEETING
In the only previous meeting between the two schools, Montclair State notched a 1-0 victory on October 19, 2021. AMER LUKOVIC netted the match's lone goal off a free-kick while SHANE KEENAN denied three shots to earn the win.

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks head to Washington, DC, for the Turk Emekli Classic Saturday and Sunday. First, Montclair State will face Oswego State at 11 am Saturday before battling host Catholic Sunday at 2 pm.
