Breeman, Potts, Jackson Collect NJAC Honors

Montclair, NJ – STEVEN BREEMAN and head coach Justin Potts received individual honors as the Montclair State men's basketball team placed a pair on the New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Conference team Wednesday.

Breeman shared Pony Wilson Co-Player of the Year honors with Ja'Zere Noel from Rowan, while Potts was tabbed as the John K. Adams Coach of the Year. The senior Breeman gained First Team laurels as sophomore MIKE JACKSON was tabbed to the Second Team.

The Oak Ridge, NJ native becomes the second player in program history to earn Player of the Year honors, joining Gian Paul Gonzalez in 2006. After collecting Honorable Mention accolades in 2020-21 and 2021-22, Breeman earns his first career First Team nod. The senior led the Red Hawks with 17.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, hitting 81 three-pointers.

Breeman set the single-season record for three-pointers with 81 and became the career leader in three-pointers in the NJAC Quarterfinals against New Jersey City University Saturday when he hit the 168th of his career. In the Red Hawks' 69-64 triumph over TCNJ on January 28, Breeman recorded his 1,000th career point before scoring his 1,000th point in a Montclair State jersey on February 11 against Kean. The senior recorded four double-doubles, including back-to-back double-doubles against Ramapo (January 4) and Stockton (January 7). Breeman netted 20+ points in 11 games and exploded for a career-high 30 against Rowan on January 11.

Jackson collects his first All-NJAC honor after finishing on the Red Hawks with 15.6 points per game, 29 steals, and 71 three-pointers. He opened the season with three consecutive double-digit scoring efforts before notching 20 for the first time against Ramapo on January 4. In the win over Ramapo, the sophomore notched five triples while adding three assists.

The Jersey City, NJ native heated up as conference play continued, tallying 26 points in wins over Kean and Rutgers-Camden before adding 23 against Rutgers-Newark and William Paterson. Jackson was instrumental in the Red Hawks' come-from-behind at Ramapo on February 8, tallying 27 points while grabbing seven rebounds and draining a season-high six three-pointers. In the regular season finale against Rowan, Jackson recorded his first career double-double, going for 18 points and a career-high 14 rebounds as the Red Hawks topped Rowan in overtime.

Potts has guided the Red hawks to a 22-4 record this season, including a 15-3 mark in the NJAC. He joins Ted Fiore as the only coaches in program history to earn Coach of the Year accolades, with Fiore winning in 2000 and 2008. Now in his fourth season, Potts has posted a record of 53-31, with a 39-23 record in the NJAC. It is the second career Coach of the Year honor for Potts, who was tabbed as the Landmark Conference Coach of the Year while at Moravian.
