Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State baseball team hosts Rutgers-Newark in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Red Hawks (13-2) thumped Keystone College 18-8 Wednesday afternoon. JASON MOORE went 3-for-4 with three RBI, including the 100th hit of his career. ANTHONY GUARINO drove in three runs as SAM ANGELO scored three times.

SCOUTING THE SCARLET RAIDERS
Rutgers-Newark is 15-4 on the season and has reeled off eight straight wins. Their last loss came on March 11 when they fell 12-0 to Mount Union in Florida.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair is 93-20-2 against Rutgers-Newark. They have won four consecutive games, with their last setback coming on April 12, 2019. Before the four-game winning streak, the Red Hawks had dropped five straight.

LAST MEETING
Montclair State notched two one-run victories on April 2, 2022, winning 5-4 and 9-8. PATRICK CUCCURULLO tallied eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 in the opener, with JACK HAVESON notching a 2 1/3 inning save. Montclair trailed 8-5 entering the eighth but drew within two on a two-run from JORDEN JURKIEWICZ. ANTHONY GUARINO gave Montclair the win, scoring two runners on an error in the ninth.

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks close out non-conference play Monday as they travel to Center Valley, Pa., to take on DeSales University at 5 pm.
