Records Fall As Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Third At NJAC Championships

College Park, Md. – The Montclair State University women's swimming and diving team placed third at the inaugural New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Meet this weekend.

The Red Hawks tallied 1,004 points over the four-day meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • JULIE TIEDEMANN set a pair of school records during her fifth-place finish in the 1,650-freestyle. The junior broke her own school in the 1,000-freestyle (10:44.71) and the 1,650-freestyle (17:50.44) en route to the fifth-place mark.
  • MADELINE ROGERS medaled in the 200-butterfly, clocking in with a school record and second-place mark of 2:07.42. She broke Katie LaCava's previous best time of 2:07.9, which was set at the Metropolitan Championships in 2014.
  • In the final event of the weekend, the 400-freestyle snapped the school record, which was set six years ago today by Madison Franke, Christina Cusmano, Catherine Cooper, and Genna Brewer. The quartet of ROURKE PERALTA, Tiedemann, CATTY GEYER, and JULIANA SKOPP-CARDILLO established a new top time of 3:34.58 while finishing second overall.
  • Peralta led four Red Hawks with a third-place time of 52.39. Skopp-Cardillo was seventh (54.39), Geyer was 11th (54.61), and MADDY WISHNOW was 19th (55.57) in the same event. MARIANNE TASSINARI took eighth in the 200-breast (2:27.68), as ABBY BROCK won the "B" flight (2:26.36).
  • LILI SHAY (2:29.18) and SADIE CRISPELL (2:35.08) also swam the 200-breast, as JULIA WEINREB (2:10.54), SOPHIA SHOPOVICK, and ABBY PANZARELLA (2:13.6) competed in the 200-back.
FROM THE POOL
"I'm proud of our women who swam their hearts out for three and a half grueling days. Maddie Rogers, Julie Tiedeman and the 400 free relay swimmers (Rourke, Juliana, Catty and Julie) earned their way onto the record board with hard work and sacrifice which began in late September. Finally, it was a great experience swimming in a world class facility." - Head Coach Brian McLaughlin.
