Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University baseball team concludes its three-game slate in Maryland as it takes on McDaniel College Sunday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair blanked Mount Aloysius 4-0 on Saturday, February 24 at Ripken Experience. JACK HAVESON struck out three of the four batters he faced in the top of the first and tallied five through three innings pitched. SAM ANGELO drove home two runs in the bottom of the third on a triple to left center to give Montclair the lead. MATT PONTARI entered the game in the seventh and struck out the side, and RYAN MCKENNA scored from third in the bottom of the seventh after a runner was caught stealing second. Montclair closed out the shutout defensively, and got another run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single from McKenna. Haveson finished the day with a career-high eight strikeouts over six innings pitched.

SCOUTING MCDANIEL
The Green Terror finished their 2023 campaign with a record of 19-17-1, including a 7-10-1 mark in Centennial Conference play. They were 1-2 against NJAC opponents, defeating NJCU 13-5 after falling twice to Montclair. McDaniel was picked seventh in the 2024 Centennial Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. They returned outfielder Shane Daly, who was named First Team All-Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Second Team All-Region by D3baseball.com.

SERIES HISTORY
The Red Hawks lead the all-time series 4-0 against the Green Terror, with all four games coming over the past two seasons. Montclair outscored McDaniel 47-8 during their two meetings last year, including a 25-3 mark to open the season.

LAST MEETING
Montclair defeated McDaniel 22-5 on February 24, 2023 at Ripken Experience in Aberdeen, Maryland. The Green Terror struck for two runs in the top of the first inning and doubled their advantage in the fifth. Montclair responded right after with a three-run home run from RYAN MCKENNA to cut the deficit to one. The Red Hawks exploded for 15 runs on 10 hits in the bottom of the sixth and tacked on two runs in each of the next two innings. JOE GISONDA went 4-for-6, with PETER COSENTINO and XANDER NABORS each recording four RBI.

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks will open newly-renovated Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday, February 27, as they host St-Joseph's Long Island. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
