Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University baseball team returns home from its West Coast road swing to host Trinity College (CT) in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair surged past Redlands 12-2 on Tuesday, March 12 to close out its four game slate in California. The Red Hawks put two runners on base for SAM ANGELO, who homered to center field to put Montclair up immediately. JASON MOORE homered later in the inning, and Montclair tacked on another run to go up six runs after the top of the first. Angelo tallied six more RBI to finish with a career-high nine, matching the program record set by John Deutsch on May 9, 1988. Montclair has won 10 games in a row for the first time since the 2001 season, with its 10-1 start marking the best in program history since 1967.

SCOUTING TRINITY
The Bantams enter Saturday afternoon's twinbill with a record of 3-4 and will look to snap a three game losing streak after starting the season 3-1. All three of their victories during the 2024 campaign have come by five or more runs, with the largest margin being their 19-4 season opening triumph over Keene State. They fell to Case Western Reserve 11-8 to close out their Spring Break event in Lexington, South Carolina on Tuesday, March 12. The Bantams collected a 21-14 record during the 2023 season and have increased their win total every year since 2020.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair and Trinity have met twice in their history, with both games coming in a doubleheader in Hartford, CT during the 2022 season. Each side took a game, with both contests being decided by two runs. 

LAST MEETING
Montclair defeated Trinity 8-6 in game two of a doubleheader on March 14, 2022. The Red Hawks quickly grabbed a three-run lead in the first inning, as Jordan Jurkiewicz drove in a run on a double, and Andrew Ollwerther belted a two-run home run. Montclair tallied a run in five of the remaining eight innings and held off a late rally from the Bantams. MATT PONTARI recorded his first career victory, recording five shutout innings with six strikeouts. Joe Norton went 3-for-4 and surpassed the 200-hit mark for his career, becoming the 13th student-athlete in program history to reach that milestone.
