Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University baseball team travels to face Drew University on Wednesday afternoon in an in-state matchup.

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair fell to Stevens 14-6 on Sunday, March 17 at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Red Hawks opened the scoring in the first, as MATT SHUHET doubled to drive in RYAN MCKENNA from second. Stevens put up eight runs over the next four innings to build a seven-run advantage. MARCUS JOHNSON singled to right field to drive in a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the deficit, but the Ducks added six more runs to take a 14-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. Montclair strung together a push in the frame, as Shuhet singled to bring in a run, then JOE GISONDA doubled to right field during the next at-bat to bring in the second marker of the frame. JASON MOORE brought in Shuhet, but Stevens was able to hold off the rally.

SCOUTING DREW
The Rangers have a 7-6 mark through their opening 13 contests to the 2024 campaign. After falling in three of their first four, they rattled off five-straight victories at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. They dropped two out of three to Wilkes in a weekend set and fell 5-0 to Moravian on Tuesday, March 19 in their most recent contest. The Rangers were tabbed eighth in the Landmark Conference Preseason Coaches Poll after going 15-22 during the 2023 season.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair and Drew have met six times in their history, an all-time series dating back to 1947. The Red Hawks hold a 4-2 edge in the series and have won the last two contests between the sides. Montclair has outscored Drew 70-38 over six games and has claimed the only game to be played at Drew on March 23, 2022.

LAST MEETING
Montclair defeated Drew 15-9 on March 28, 2023 at Yogi Berra Stadium. After the Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Red Hawks immediately answered with three runs in their half of the frame on hits from JASON MOORE and ANTHONY GUARINO. Drew tacked on another run in the second, but a SAM ANGELO RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Moore made the margin three. With the score 7-4 in the fifth, Moore doubled to right field to drive in two runs and MATT KALISKE brought in another to put Montclair in double digits. Drew used a seventh inning rally to cut the deficit to one, but the Red Hawks rattled off five runs over the final two innings, highlighted by a triple from Moore and a home run from Angelo.

The Red Hawks will open their largest homestand of the season on Friday, March 22 as they take on MIT. First pitch from Yogi Berra Stadium is slated for 3:00 PM.
