Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University baseball team opens its largest homestand of the season on Friday afternoon as it takes on MIT in a doubleheader.

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair took down in-state rival Drew University 10-7 on Wednesday, March 20. Scoreless through four innings, the Red Hawks broke through on a leadoff home run from SAM ANGELO. The Rangers leveled the game at one in the bottom of the sixth, but Montclair exploded for seven runs to break the game open the following frame. JASON MOORE and MATTEO PASCULLI walked to lead off the inning, with Moore scoring on an error. RYAN MCKENNA and MATT SHUHET delivered two-run doubles before Moore capped it off with an RBI hit to left-center. Drew tallied four runs in the eighth, but answered with two in the top of the ninth to seal the victory on sacrifice flies from JOE GISONDA and MICHAEL MURPHY.

SCOUTING MIT
The Engineers enter Friday's twinbill with a 7-5 mark on the 2024 campaign. They opened their season with a victory over Rutgers-Newark before falling to Stevens in extra innings. MIT split a four-game slate in California and have won four out of their last six contests. The Engineers fell 16-3 in their most recent contest to the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday, March 20. MIT finished the 2023 campaign with a 16-21 record, falling to #8 Wheaton College in their fourth game of the NEWMAC Tournament. They were tabbed fourth in the 2024 NEWMAC Preseason Coaches Poll and returned Teddy Schoenfeld, an All-Conference and All-Region selection.
