Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University baseball team will host Manhattanville College in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair split a doubleheader with MIT on Friday, March 22 at Yogi Berra Stadium. After falling 9-4 in the first game, the Red Hawks started the second game strong with a dominant pitching performance from MICHAEL TIMBERLAKE, who tossed six shutout innings while striking out six. JASON MOORE broke the scoring open in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, and JOE GISONDA singled to center field to drive in two runs the following inning. Montclair expanded their lead in the seventh, bringing home six runs, headlined by a two RBI double from ZACH STEARNS. MIT staged a rally in the final two innings, but MICHAEL TODARO shut the door in the ninth to clinch the game for the Red Hawks. The victory marked Montclair's 50th at Yogi Berra Stadium since the 2020 season.

SCOUTING MANHATTANVILLE
The Valiants enter Sunday's twinbill with a mark of 5-4 on the 2024 campaign and will look to bounce back after falling to Centenary 5-4 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, March 23. They opened their season with wins in three of their first four in Myrtle Beach, SC, and have lost three of their last five. Their largest victory of the season came on March 9, when they took down Colby-Sawyer with a season-high 17 runs. Sunday begins a stretch for Manhattanville in which it will play eight games over a five day span, including two conference doubleheaders and three NJAC opponents. The Valiants went 17-22 during the 2023 season and were tabbed eighth in the Skyline Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair and Manhattanville have met six times in their history, with the Red Hawks holding a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series. All six prior meetings have taken place since 2018, with all being played at Yogi Berra Stadium. After the Valiants took the first ever clash, the Red Hawks have won five straight, outscoring Manhattanville 52-24.

LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks swept Manhattanville in a doubleheader on March 26, 2023 at Yogi Berra Stadium. Montclair took the first game 22-4, headlined by a 12-run third inning. MATT KALISKE finished a home run shy of the cycle, with MILES FEASTER tallying four hits and three RBI. In game two, Kaliske dropped an RBI single into right field to give Montclair the lead in the first. They doubled their lead in the third as Feaster came home on a passed ball. After Montclair added two more runs in the fourth, Manhattanville scored five times in the fifth and held the Red Hawk offense in check until the ninth inning. With the bases loaded, MICHAEL MURPHY walked to bring in the tying run before MATTEO PASCULLI lined a single into left, scoring JASON MOORE to complete the walk-off.
