Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University baseball team will conclude their season-long five game homestand on Tuesday afternoon against DeSales University.

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair surged past Manhattanville in a doubleheader sweep on Sunday, March 24. After the Red Hawks took down the Valiants 7-3 in a seven inning game one, they used an eight-run eighth inning to rally in the second contest. The visitors struck first in game two, plating two runs in the third, but Montclair answered with two runs, headlined by a double from MATT KALISKE. The Red Hawks took the lead two frames later on an RBI single to center field from JASON MOORE. Manhattanville pushed to take the lead in the eighth, scoring three markers, but Montclair staged a rally in the bottom of the frame to regain the advantage. With the score tied at five, Kaliske drove in two runs on a single, and REECE MALEK later capped off the surge with a three-run home run. The victories marked the sixth and seventh straight for the Red Hawks against the Valiants.

SCOUTING DESALES
The Bulldogs sport a 9-9 mark on the 2024 campaign and have won five out of their last six entering Tuesday afternoon's contest. DeSales opened their campaign winning four out of six, but fell in six consecutive contests, including five in Texas. Since, they have won five games with just one setback, and have scored 13 or more runs in three of those contests. The Bulldogs scored 45 runs over a two game stretch against Delaware Valley and Swarthmore, and put up nine in their most recent contest, a shutout victory over Lebanon Valley on Sunday, March 24. DeSales went 22-19 during the 2023 season and were tabbed fifth in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Preseason Coaches Poll.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair holds a 19-8-1 advantage against DeSales in the all-time series, including a 12-1-1 mark at home. The Bulldogs have claimed four out of the last five meetings against the Red Hawks, including the most recent at Yogi Berra Stadium. Two of the last three clashes have been decided by two or fewer runs, and Montclair has put up double-digit run totals in two of its last four games against DeSales.

LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks fell to DeSales 13-5 on April 3, 2023. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early advantage with seven runs in the first inning and two more in the third. DeSales added a single run in the sixth to push the margin to double-digits, and capped off their scoring in the seventh, plating three more runs. Montclair loaded the bases in the ninth and brought home their first run of the day on a fielder's choice from MATT KALISKE. A walk to ETHAN SARMIENTO filled the bases again, and XANDER NABORS hit a grand slam to left field to make the final margin eight.

The Red Hawks will open New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday, March 30, as they travel to face Ramapo College in a doubleheader. First pitch from Mahwah, NJ is slated for 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
