Montclair, NJ – The #18/20 Montclair State University baseball team hosts #10/11 Rowan University in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
Montclair edged William Paterson 7-5 on Friday, April 5. The Red Hawks used a first inning double from MICHAEL MURPHY to open up a 2-0 advantage early on, but the Pioneers responded in the same frame with three runs of their own on a bases-clearing triple. They added to their lead with two more tallies in the second inning on an RBI single. Montclair mounted a comeback in the sixth, as MAX MCLOUGHLIN singled to center field to bring in a tally, and REECE MALEK singled to cut the margin to one. SAM ANGELO recorded a bases loaded walk later in the frame to level the contest, and MATT SHUHET doubled down the left field line to give the Red Hawks a 7-5 lead to cap the rally. NICK DESIDERIO earned the victory, tossing 5.1 innings of shutout relief, allowing just one hit while striking out a career-high 11.

SCOUTING ROWAN
The Profs enter Saturday's twinbill with a 13-4 mark on the 2024 campaign, with Montclair being their fifth ranked opponent on their schedule. Rowan narrowly fell to Johnson & Wales in their season opener, but responded with eight consecutive victories, including wins over #7 Wisconsin-La Crosse and #10 Aurora. They are 5-3 over their last eight contests, including a split against Kean in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, March 30. Rowan amassed a 33-15 record during the 2023 season along with the NJAC Regular Season title. They rattled off NCAA Tournament victories against SUNY Brockport and Susquehanna to advance to the Super Regionals, where they were swept by #2 Salisbury. The Profs were picked at the top of the 2024 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll, receiving six first place votes.

SERIES HISTORY
Montclair leads the all-time series against Rowan 90-69 dating back to the 1958 season. The Profs have claimed seven of the last 10 meetings against the Red Hawks, including the pair of games during last year's season series. Montclair defeated Rowan 6-5 in the last contest at Yogi Berra Stadium on April 9, 2022.

LAST MEETING
The Red Hawks fell in a doubleheader to Rowan on April 8, 2023. The Profs put up a run in the first inning of game one on a bases-loaded single, and doubled their lead in the fifth. They scored once in the seventh and three times in the eighth to seal a 6-0 victory in the opener. Rowan scored twice in the first inning of the second contest, and added multiple runs in four consecutive frames to open a 14-0 advantage. Montclair scored in the top of the eighth, as RYAN MCKENNA led off with a double and moved to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later, JACK ZABARSKY singled through the right side to bring McKenna home.
