LAST TIME OUT
CHRISTIAN CEVIS and MYLES PRIMAS each put in layups to kick off the scoring in the contest. After a successful layup by the Scarlet Raiders, the Red Hawks caught fire with a 14-1 run that was capped off by a three-pointer from RYAN CASSELS and put Montclair up 18-3 with 13:16 remaining in the first half. Newark fought back and avoided an early rout with a 15-6 run that cut the lead to 24-17 with 8:25 remaining. Connections from the free throw line put Montclair back out in front by a double-digit lead of 29-19. Both teams traded blows down the stretch, and Montclair took a 40-27 lead into the second half. The Red Hawks once again took advantage of their opportunities at the free-throw line early before a back-and-forth fight led to a 50-37 score with 16:31 remaining. A Cassel's three and a layup from JACOB MORALES led to a run of 16-5 and put them up 68-42. Cevis and Cassels both had six points in that run. Facing a 20-point deficit of 72-52 with 7:19 remaining, Rutgers looked like it was going to generate a run with five unanswered points, but Morales sank a three to halt any big run attempt. Both teams exchanged buckets down the stretch, and Montclair walked away still unbeaten with a final result of 87-74.
